Free Geocaching is published and operated by Scafa Investments LLC. Scafa Investments LLC also develops MapRaiders, a separate game that combines real-world movement with territory strategy and a collectible card game. When an article on this site mentions MapRaiders, it is marked as coming "from our studio" and links to this page.

How we choose what to recommend

We do not run our own lab tests of third-party geocaching apps or claim hands-on trials we have not done. Instead, our picks are built from:

Official sources. Feature lists, pricing, and platform support come from the operator's own website, help pages, blog posts, or app store listing.
Actually free, not a trial. We separate a permanently free tier from a time-limited free trial, and we say which one we are describing.
What is excluded. Every recommendation states a real limit, not just a feature list.
A visible check date. Each page shows the date its facts were last checked, since prices and features change.

Where we have not been able to confirm a fact from an official source, we say so directly rather than presenting a guess as confirmed. We do not invent star ratings, player counts, or download numbers, and we do not publish fabricated reviews or testimonials.

Sources and updates

Each article on this site lists the specific official pages used to write it, with the date they were checked. If an operator changes pricing or features after our check date, the article may be temporarily out of date until our next review; the check date tells you how recent the information is.

Our disclosure on MapRaiders

MapRaiders is developed by Scafa Investments LLC, the same company that publishes this site. Any mention of MapRaiders on Free Geocaching is labelled "From our studio" and carries this disclosure. We do not place MapRaiders in a list of currently playable geocaching alternatives, since it is a different kind of product (a location-based strategy and card game, not a cache database) and it is currently in development, accepting beta registrations rather than being publicly available.
